SOUTH AFRICAN OPPORTUNITIES · JOBS + TENDERS

1. Who We Are

CareerPortals.co.za is a South African online platform providing job vacancies, bursaries, learnerships, internships, and career opportunities. The site is operated by MBICT (Mbvelo IT Consulting), the responsible party for personal information processed through this platform. Contact us at in**@***********co.za.

2. Information We Collect

Job seekers and candidates: full name, email address, phone number, location (city/province), highest qualification, field of study, years of experience, sector preferences, professional summary, and an uploaded CV file (PDF/DOCX). Please provide only information relevant to recruitment and avoid including identity numbers, health information or other sensitive information in your CV unless necessary and lawfully requested.

Employers and recruiters: company name, contact name, email address, and billing details processed via PayFast.

All users: standard technical data, including IP address, browser type, pages visited and session data, collected through cookies and server logs.

3. Why We Collect It (Purpose)

We use candidate information to create and display candidate profiles to verified employer/recruiter subscribers for legitimate recruitment purposes. We process employer information to administer job posting packages and payments. We send job alert emails only to candidates who opt in; you may unsubscribe at any time. Technical and analytics information helps us maintain security, improve site performance and improve user experience.

We process information with your consent where required, to provide services you request and fulfil contractual obligations, to comply with applicable law, or where justified by legitimate interests consistent with POPIA. Providing a candidate profile is voluntary, but required registration fields are necessary to provide the CV database service. We do not use recruitment consent as consent to unrelated marketing.

4. Who Sees Your Data

Candidate profile information, including name, email address, phone number and CV, is available for recruitment access only to verified employer/recruiter subscribers with an active Recruiter package. Non-subscribers see a limited preview containing qualification, experience and location, without your name, contact details or CV. Please avoid identifying details in fields used for previews. Authorised site administrators may access information as necessary to operate, secure and support the service.

Employer payment and billing details are processed by PayFast. We do not store payment credentials or PayFast billing details on our servers; payment records retained by the platform are limited to transaction reference numbers. Employer account and legally required business records are handled separately as described below.

We do not sell personal data to any third party. Hosting, email delivery and other service providers may process information on our behalf under data processing agreements requiring confidentiality, appropriate security and processing only on our instructions. Information may also be disclosed where required by law. Recruiters must use candidate information only for legitimate recruitment purposes and protect it in accordance with POPIA.

We apply appropriate technical and organisational safeguards, including access controls and restricted recruiter access, to protect personal information. No online system is completely risk-free. Where a security compromise triggers notification obligations under POPIA, we will notify the Information Regulator and affected individuals as required. If a service provider processes information outside South Africa, we require safeguards that meet POPIA section 72 before transferring it.

5. Your POPIA Rights

Under the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA), No. 4 of 2013, you have the following rights, subject to applicable legal requirements and exceptions:

To exercise these rights, email in**@***********co.za with the subject line POPIA Data Request. We may need to verify your identity before releasing or changing information. If you cannot use the dashboard to withdraw consent or delete your profile, contact us by email. We will explain any lawful reason that prevents us from fulfilling a request.

6. Data Retention

Candidate profiles are retained for as long as the account is active. When you delete your candidate profile or withdraw consent, your candidate personal data is permanently removed within 30 days, except information that must lawfully be retained or is needed to establish, exercise or defend legal claims. Any such retained information is restricted and is not used for recruitment.

Employer business and transaction records are retained for seven years for tax and legal compliance, including applicable Companies Act record-keeping requirements and SARS requirements. This does not mean that all SARS records have a universal seven-year statutory minimum. Records are securely deleted or de-identified when their retention period ends, unless a legal hold or other applicable obligation requires longer retention.

7. Cookies

This site uses cookies for session management, analytics through Google Analytics / Site Kit, and performance caching through LiteSpeed Cache. Essential cookies support functions such as signing in, security and maintaining your session. They are used as necessary to deliver the service, not as a basis for consent to optional tracking.

Non-essential analytics cookies should be used only with consent where required. You may refuse or withdraw optional cookie consent through any cookie controls provided on the site and may block or delete non-essential cookies in your browser settings. Disabling essential cookies may prevent some functions from working. Cookie preferences do not alter your POPIA rights or candidate-profile consent.

8. Information Regulator (South Africa)

If you believe your POPIA rights have been violated, you may lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator of South Africa. Current contact details are: POPIA complaints: PO*************@***************rg.za; general enquiries: en*******@***************rg.za; website: inforegulator.org.za; physical address: Woodmead North Office Park, 54 Maxwell Drive, Woodmead, Johannesburg, 2191. These current details replace older justice.gov.za contact details and the former JD House address.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The latest version will always be available at careerportals.co.za/privacy-policy/. Significant changes will be communicated by email to registered users. Where a new purpose requires consent, we will request it before using information for that purpose.

10. Effective Date
